4x4 Things – Terms of Service Last updated: January 22, 2026
Welcome to 4x4 Things, a marketplace that connects owners of off-road caravans, trailers, and camping gear
(“Owners”) with people who want to rent them (“Renters”). By accessing or using our website, platform, or
services (collectively “the Platform”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please
do not use the Platform.
1. About 4x4 Things
4x4 Things is a listing and booking marketplace. We do not own, operate, or insure any caravans, trailers,
or camping equipment listed on the Platform. Owners are independent providers. Renters contract directly
with Owners. 4x4 Things provides the technology, payment processing, and support.
2. Eligibility
To use the Platform you must: be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s licence (for towing rentals),
agree to these Terms, provide accurate personal and contact information. 4x4 Things may verify your
identity before allowing bookings.
3. Accounts
You are responsible for keeping your account details safe, ensuring all information is accurate, and any
actions that occur under your account. You may not create fake accounts, misrepresent your identity, use
someone else’s account, or circumvent platform rules, fees, or processes.
4. The Platform
4x4 Things provides a listing platform for Owners, booking and payment system, basic renter verification,
communication tools, support services, and secure payment handling. We do not guarantee availability,
condition of listed items, provide insurance (unless explicitly stated), or accept liability for Owner or
Renter behaviour.
5. Listings (Owners)
Owners must provide accurate descriptions, maintain safe condition, ensure legal compliance, respond to
bookings, and honour confirmed bookings. Owners must not list equipment they do not own, hide defects or
safety issues, communicate outside the platform to avoid service fees, or misrepresent condition/age.
4x4 Things may remove or decline listings.
6. Bookings (Renters)
Renters must use equipment responsibly, return it in same condition, pay all fees/deposits/damages, follow
towing requirements, and communicate honestly. Renters must not sub-rent, use illegally, go outside
permitted
regions, or tow with unsuitable vehicles.
7. Payments & Fees
Payments are processed securely through 4x4 Things. Owners pay a service fee; payouts occur after start
date once confirmed. Renters agree to pay rental fee, service fee, deposit, and any damage/cleaning/late
charges. Non-payment may result in account suspension, debt recovery, or legal action.
8. Cancellations & Refunds
Owner cancellations: Renter receives full refund, Owner may get penalty/account review. Renter
cancellations:
refund depends on Owner’s policy.
9. Damage, Missing Items, & Liability
Renters are liable for damage, loss, tyre punctures, undercarriage damage, misuse, insurance excess. Owners
must document pre- and post-rental condition. 4x4 Things is not liable for accidents, towing incidents,
personal injury, theft, or insurance disputes. Responsibility lies between Owner and Renter.
10. Insurance
Coverage varies: provided by Owner, Renter, or arranged separately. 4x4 Things does not guarantee validity,
coverage outcomes, or claims processing. Renters must confirm insurance BEFORE towing. Owners must notify
4x4
Things of restrictions or requirements.
11. Prohibited Use
The Platform may not be used for fraud, scams, circumventing fees, fake bookings, stolen equipment,
abusive/illegal
activities, or harassment. Violations may result in suspension, listing removal, or legal action.
12. Safety & Compliance
Renters: safe towing, check tow ratings, ensure roadworthiness, follow laws, use correct towing gear.
Owners: maintain roadworthy equipment, ensure brake/tyre/light function, provide accurate setup
instructions.
13. Disputes
Owners and Renters must attempt direct resolution first. 4x4 Things may mediate platform matters; legal
disputes
remain outside liability.
14. Platform Authority
4x4 Things may modify content, adjust fees, remove harmful users, decline bookings, suspend accounts, and
update
terms at any time. Continued use = acceptance.
15. Limitation of Liability
4x4 Things is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Platform is “as is”; use at
your own risk.
16. Termination
Accounts may be terminated for violations, fraud, unsafe behaviour, or bypassing rules. You may close your
account anytime.
17. Governing Law
South African law governs these Terms.

Identity verification tools, Payment processors, Optional social login accounts, Fraud prevention tools.
3. How We Use Your Information
To operate the platform, create & manage accounts, enable Owner ↔ Renter communication, process bookings &
payments,
provide support, analyse usage, enhance UX, improve security, enforce terms, comply with law, and facilitate
disputes.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
Your consent, contractual necessity, legitimate interest, legal compliance.
5. How We Store & Protect Your Data
Encrypted connections (HTTPS), Secure payments, Access control, Routine checks. Data stored only as long as
needed.
6. Sharing Your Information
We never sell your data. Shared only with Owners/Renters for bookings, trusted service providers, or legal
obligations.
7. Cookies & Tracking
Maintain sessions, improve functionality, analyse usage, support marketing. You may disable cookies, some
features may not work.
8. Your Rights (POPIA + GDPR-Friendly)

9. Data Retention
